Advising and Learning Support

embark Orientation

All incoming students are required to attend an embark orientation session before the start of the semester.

embark is the first and most important step in becoming a Bulldog and is required for student success at UNC Asheville. At embark, you’ll learn about academics and campus resources, meet other new students and with an academic advisor, and register for classes.

Visit the embark website to find out more!

Do I need to set up an advising appointment before I attend embark orientation?

You do not need to set up an advising appointment before you arrive for embark since you will be advised during embark. You should check out the information we have about registering for classes to get a step-by-step breakdown of how to plan for your 1st semester at UNC Asheville.

Why will I be pre-registered for my fall semester courses before embark?

Pre-registration will alleviate the anxiety associated with deciding how to build a schedule that gets you on the track to academic success. We will pre-register you for up to 11 credit hours to assist you in understanding and meeting our curricular requirements.

You will have the opportunity to make any necessary adjustments to your schedule on the 2nd day of embark, as well as the schedule readjustment period later in the summer.

Do I need to stay for the entire embark session?

Yes! All the information addressed during embark is done so in a cumulative manner. If you miss a segment of embark, you miss important information that will be referenced and built upon in later segments of the program.

Once you RSVP for embark, you will receive periodic email reminders to your UNC Asheville student email account about what you need to do before arriving for embark this summer.

We have a lot of exciting activities planned for you! You will learn about UNC Asheville's curriculum, meet other incoming freshmen, and get a glimpse of what life is like at UNC Asheville, and review your pre-registration for Fall 2013.

What if I can't attend embark?

If you are unable to attend the scheduled embark sessions, please contact the office of Transition and Parent Programs immediately at transition@unca.edu or by calling 828.232.2417.
